Glasgow’s Best Steakhouse – As voted for by you!

We decided to put our Top 10 section into the hands of our Instagram followers. We asked and you voted in your thousands.

No matter how many food trends come and go, the enduring appeal of the steakhouse is here to stay.

Whether it’s a special occasion, lunch on your boss’ credit card, or simply needing to kill those carnivorous cravings for a juicy, seared, slab of tender beef – the humble steakhouse provides a dining experience that will forever stand the test of time.

Although we always aim to promote independent businesses in Glasgow, obviously leaving things up to a public vote may result in the odd chain popping up. So, you know, don’t shoot the messenger.

Here are the ten best steakhouses in Glasgow:

10The Grill Room on the Square

Grill Room on the Square

With its lush furnishings, enviable views over Royal Exchange Square and slick waiting staff, Grill Room on the Square has spent over a decade developing its rich reputation as a luxury steakhouse – that also happens to call Glasgow’s most exclusive private member’s club home.

9Dakota Bar & Grill

Dakota Bar & Grill

This swanky establishment is a treat for your eyes as well as your taste buds. The lush decor creates an inviting dining environment but even more enticing, however, are the sumptuous steaks – cooked simply over hot coals.

Also, don’t skip the desserts here as they’re all capable of stealing the show.

8The McMillan Bar + Chophouse

The McMillan Bar + Chop House

This popular south side haunt has built a solid reputation for quality cuts and amazing cocktails. With midweek dining deals available Monday to Thursday, it’s a great option for those wanting to stick to a budget.

Of course, if you’re happy to loosen the purse strings, then the big hitters are all available with the 12oz fillet a particular indulgence.

7Tiffney’s Steakhouse

Tiffney’s Steakhouse

Quiet, unassuming and tucked away down a residential street in the west end. Tiffney’s goes against the grain of most popular restaurants in the city. A hidden gem with very little social media activity, their success comes from word-of-mouth recommendations. But what they lack in marketing presence, they make up for in sheer, undeniable quality.

Many who have frequented Tiffney’s insist it’s the best steak they’ve ever tasted, so those steak fans that haven’t yet visited should make it a priority.

6Hutchesons City Grill

Hutchesons City Grill

Situated in a category A listed building, this stunning restaurant would be a stand-out in any city in the world. Home to probably the most Instagrammed ceiling in Glasgow, it’s worth visiting for the grandeur alone; which obviously provides the perfect setting to cut into an opulent, high-roller chunk of beef.

5Alston Bar & Beef

Alston Bar and Beef

Tucked away under Central Station, this subterranean steakhouse couldn’t be more convenient for diners commuting into the city. Handy that this place also doubles up as one of Glasgow’s best gin bars, so you can really take advantage of the train home being within staggering distance.

4The Spanish Butcher

The Spanish Butcher

Sometimes you need to take your lust for meat to excess and this sexy-as-hell, low-lit space on Miller Street is the place to do it. The expertly-curated steak line-up showcases their prized Galician beef which is imported directly from Northern Spain.

12-14 year old Galician blond cattle provide this highly sought-after beef, which is then dry-aged for a minimum of 35 days – so in simplified steak-speak, it’s fucking awesome.

3Porter & Rye

Porter and Rye

Dry-ageing cabinets packed with huge hunks of beef provide a calling-card for serious meatheads. Whilst undoubtedly one of Glasgow’s top steakhouses, when it comes to cocktails, Porter & Rye really is a cut above the rest.

This small but perfectly formed Finnieston favourite sits confidently between a serious steakhouse and classic cocktail bar.

2Miller & Carter

Miller and Carter

This titan of beef has been perched near the top of Glasgow’s steakhouse hierarchy since opening on St. Vincent Street in 2016. Sure it’s a chain but the juicy cuts they grill are no less desirable, which — in variety, quality, and, yes, even price — are hard to beat.

For maximum beefeater pleasure, order the “Butcher’s Block” a carnivore’s dream which combines the joys of prime-quality fillet, grain fed rib-eye, 30-day aged Scottish rump and brisket stuffed marrow bone.

1The Butchershop Bar & Grill

The Butchershop Bar and Grill

A worthy winner of Glasgow’s Best Steakhouse crown, The Butchershop stands as the city’s great red-meat pantheon. Providing the quintessential Glasgow steakhouse experience and showing no signs of being dethroned any time soon.

Particularly indulgent, is their iconic Tomahawk! A thing of decadence and beefy beauty; with every bite enough to make one completely reevaluate why you ever ordered steak off of the bone.

Keep an eye out for the results of our other Top 10 votes being published soon.
